Scorching Weekend in Eton for Dunmow Triathletes

 

3 Dunmow triathletes took part over 2 events at Eton over the weekend, which took place at the Olympic rowing venue at Dorney Lake. Wendy O Brien and Gary Wordsell took part on Saturday in the Half Olympic Distance event of 750m open water swim, a 20 km bike ride followed by a 5 km run. Wendy completed the event in a very creditable 1 Hour 29 minutes finishing in 327th place out of over 500 entrants. Gary competed in the relay event as part of the local Accountancy firm Price Bailey, team as he is recovering from an injury – however he managed to complete the 750m swim in 17 minutes and 27 seconds.

 

Adam French then took part on Sunday in the Ultra Fit Triathlon; this was a slightly longer triathlon and comprised of a 1000m open water swim, a 30km flat, fast bike ride around the outside of the lake and finally a 7.5km run. Adam finished the event in a superb 1 hour 48 minutes finishing in 48th place out of 250 competitors.

 

First Triathlon for Dunmow Tri Club Member

 

Shaun Woodleigh completed his first triathlon after training with Dunmow Triathlon Club over the winter. Shaun took part in the sprint event in Newmarket which involved a swim of 300m, followed by a bike ride of 22 km and finishing off with a 4 km run and completed the event in 1 hour 18 minutes and 40 seconds finishing in 102nd place out of 141 entrants. Shaun was pleased with his first event and commented “I was really pleased with the result and the whole experience was made easier by the training I had carried out with the Club which helped me complete my first event”.
Club members Richard Wood, Stuart Meader and James King also competed at the weekend. James and Stuart took part in their taking part in his first Olympic Distance event at the Merchant Taylors triathlon in Watford – James completed the 1500m open water swim in 30 minutes 39 seconds; 40km bike ride in 1 hour 20 minutes; and 10 km run in just over 45 minutes. James’s final time for the whole event was 2 hours 40 minutes and he finished in 60th place out of 145 entrants whilst Stuart was just behind James finishing in 3 hours and 2 minutes in 126th place.
Finally Richard Woods took part at the Eton Super Sprints based around the Olympic Rowing venue at Dorney in Berkshire on Saturday. This massive event catered for over 2530 competitors who raced over 2 days in this stunning venue. The race itself comprised of a 400m open water swim, 20 km bike ride around the rowing lake and a fast flat 5 km run to finish. Richard completed the challenge in 1 hour 30 minutes and 13 seconds finishing in 699th position out of 1071 competitors on Saturday.

Junior Section leads the way for Dunmow Triathlon Club

 

Dunmow Triathlon’s newly formed junior section led the way at Dunmow’s Sport Relief Mile held on Sunday based from the Leisure Centre. The Junior Section of the Club was formed only 1 month ago and regular training sessions take place at Stansted. The following members took part Scott Slater, Harvey Long, Emily Prier, Paddy Long, Finlay Slater, Stan Long and Abigail Prier.

 

On Saturday 4 senior members of the Club, Doug Slater, Matt Prier, Matt Hodge and Graham Milligan took part in the Orion 15 mile cross country race in Epping Forest. This challenging run was held on an undulating course ran on road, tracks and mud! Doug was first over the line for Dunmow in 1 hour 44 minutes finishing in 13th place. 5 members of the Club took part in the Brentwood Half Marathon; first over the line was Aiden Armitage in 1:35 followed by Adam French (1.36), Andy Chambers (1.39), James King (1.39) and Rob Newman (1.45). Great performances by all which meant Dunmow Tri came 13th out of 27 clubs in the team classification, which is fantastic bearing in mind that the Club is not a specialist running club!

 

Successful Weekend for Dunmow Triathletes

 

Dunmow triathletes had a busy weekend taking part in one of the first triathlons’ of the 2010 season and the Virgin London Marathon. Adam French, Darren Thomas, Andy Chambers and Phil Curran competed in the Wattisham Station Triathlon on Saturday. The event was held in perfect conditions at the RAF station in Suffolk, the event started off with a pool based swim of 300m, followed by a flat, fast 20 km bike ride on closed roads and the runway and finishing off with a 5 km off road run. Darren Thomas was the first Dunmow athlete home, just breaking the hour barrier in 59 minutes, followed by Andy Chambers in 1 hour 1 minute; Adam French was 3rd home in 1 hour and 3 minutes; last was Phil Curran who broke his personal best by 2 minutes finishing the race in 1 hour and 7 minutes. On Sunday 5 club members finished the 30th London Marathon - first home was Rob Newman in 4-07, 2nd Emma Elms in 4-11; 3rd Graham Milligan in 4-21; Catherine Marlow finished 4th in 4-38; and finally Justine Long in 5-17.
