Dunmow Triathlon Club hosted its eighth Triathlon on Sunday 25th September; based at Dunmow Leisure Centre and Parsonage Downs.

223 competitors from all over the South and East of the UK had entered the race and 183 completed the course on a bright, warm if slightly damp morning.

The triathlon itself was a great success with all athletes fully enjoying the testing courses.

The 12 length, 300m swim was held in the Leisure Centre’s pool and started at 08:00– the fastest competitor was Richard Thomas, who completed the distance in 5 minutes 40 seconds; this includes a 200m run from the pool to transition area on the Parsonage Downs in front of the Helena Romanes School to begin the 23 km bike leg.

The bike course took the competitors on the B184 to Thaxted, turning left in Thaxted on the road towards Elsenham turning left at Broxted to complete the course via Tilty Hill and the Eastons before returning to the Leisure Centre and beginning the run. Dunmow Tri Club’s own member Mark Sanford was the fastest competitor on the bike leg completing the course in 38 minutes and 43 seconds.

A 5km run completed the event – the run itself was a mixture of road and cross country which again included some testing hills for the competitors. The fasted run time was set also by Mark Sanford from in 17 minutes and 32 seconds.

Prizes were presented by Club Chairman Phil Curran and the winner of the men’s race was Mark Sanford. He completed the whole race in 1 hour and 3 minutes 9 seconds. The women’s race was won by Louise Rawlinson who finished in 1 hour 20 minutes and 24 seconds from Tri Sport Epping.
