Busy Week for Dunmow Triathletes.
Members of the Dunmow Triathlon Club have had a busy couple of weeks competing at home and internationally.
Firstly Matt Hodge of Dunmow competed in and completed in his first Triathlon – the Barcelona Half Ironman Race! A 1900m swim followed by a 90km bike and finishing with a half marathon along the coast. Matt completed this race in 6 hours and 15 minutes but had to put up with high temperatures and sea swim in rough water.
10 members of the Club then took part in the Braintree and District Triathlon based around the Halstead Leisure Centre on 7 June 2009. The Sprint Distance event was influenced by awful weather conditions with heavy rain causing minor flooding on parts of the bike route and the cold temperatures causing entrants to spend more time in transitions attempting to keep as warm as possible.First Dunmow Triathlete home was Keith Taylor finishing in 32nd place. He was then followed home by Adam French, Stuart Meader, James King, Gerard Smith, Dave Andrews, Catherine Marlow and Justine Long. Both Emma Elms and Phil Curran had mechanical problems and unfortunately did not finish the event. Special mention must go to Catherine Marlow and James King who both completed their first triathlon.
