Dunmow Triathletes Early Season Success

The triathlon season has finally got under way with 2 Dunmow Triathletes competing in local races whilst a third successfully completed the Paris Marathon.

Then last weekend the oldest and youngest members of the club finished the Flora London Marathon. James King completed the Paris Marathon on 5 April 2009 in a very creditable 4 hours 29 minutes and 48 seconds. James was one of the 31 000 runners who started and finished the marathon at a very warm Arc de Triomphe.

The first triathlon of the season was completed by new member Stuart Meader at Dunston in Northamptonshire. The 400m swim was held in Dunston School’s pool, followed by a 20 km bike ride through the stunning Northamptonshire countryside and to finish a fast 5km run. This was Stuart’s first triathlon and he completed the course in a very creditable 1 hour 14 minutes and 22 seconds.

Phil Curran then completed the Wattisham Station Triathlon on the day before the marathon – this was held over the same distances as Dunston but the bike route took in the runway at Wattisham airfield past the Apache helicopters! Phil completed the race in 1 hour 8 minutes and 15 seconds almost 3 minutes better than last year.

Last Sunday Rob Newman and Adam French both successfully completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 37 minutes and 4 hours 29 minutes respectively. A great day out was had by all with other Club members turning out to support Adam and Rob plus the other 34 998 participants!
